A BODY has been found in the search for missing Poole pensioner Alan Allgood.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said officers located a body in woods near Blandford this morning.

They believe it to be that of the 65-year-old who was last seen on Tuesday afternoon.

The police spokesman said: “Today, Thursday 24 July 2014, a body of a man was found in a wooded copse near to the B3082 just outside Blandford by a police coordinated search involving members of Dorset Search and Rescue.

“The search moved to Blandford following the discovery of his car in that area earlier today.

“Dorset Police believe this to be the body of missing Poole man Alan Allgood, who was reported missing on Tuesday 22 July 2014.”

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Allgood was last seen dropping a friend off at work at the retail park on Wallisdown Road at 12.50pm on Tuesday.

An hour later he sent a text message to that friend which, police say, indicated he was upset and may come to some harm.

An extensive search was carried out at Wareham Forest after the alarm was first raised.

Police said the pensioner suffered from angina and did not have his medication with him at the time of his disappearance.

In a public appeal to help find him officers said he would need treatment as soon as possible.

The police spokesman said Mr Allgood’s next of kin and Her Majesty’s Coroner have been informed.

Formal identification of the body is yet to take place.
