AN UNEXPLODED piece of ordnance which was found on a beach near Weymouth has been destroyed.

The ordnance, thought to be an old, rusty anti-submarine rocket, was located at Redcliffe Point this afternoon.

Coastguards were alerted to the object's existence on Wednesday evening.

Nothing was found in the initial search, which led to another search at low tide this morning.

After the ordnance was located, photos were sent to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Experts from EOD attended the scene at around 3.30pm.

The object was then removed from the area before being destroyed.
