FAMILY and friends attended a memorial for a motorcyclist killed in a collision on Weymouth Way.

The A354 was closed between Swannery Bridge and Chafeys Roundabout whilst friends and family of Max Fryman, 23, paid their respects last night.

Inquests have been opened and adjourned into the deaths of Max and dog walker Janice Short, who both died in the collision on the Weymouth Way on Saturday.

Yesterday, coroner for Dorset Sheriff Payne was told how 63-year-old Mrs Short and 23-year-old motorcyclist Max Fryman both died at the scene after suffering multiple injuries.

Coroner’s officer Allan Young told the court Mrs Short was attempting to cross the road with her husband near Chafeys Roundabout when the collision took place at around 5pm.

Mr Young said: “Whilst crossing the road she was struck by a motorcycle travelling north along the same road ridden by Mr James Fryman.

“Both Mr Fryman and Mrs Short were seriously injured and both died at the scene.”

Dr Simon Rasbridge, consultant pathologist at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, reported the provisional causes of death for both Mrs Short and Mr Fryman as multiple injuries pending toxicology tests.

Dorset Police is continuing its investigations into the collision.

Mr Payne adjourned both inquests until December to enable further enquiries to be made.

Since Saturday’s accident, flowers have been laid at the scene for the two victims.

Mrs Short, a former teaching assistant, moved with her husband to Wey-mouth from Leighton Buzzard to be closer to their family last summer.

Mrs Short’s husband paid tribute to his wife in a moving statement that described her ‘wonderful spirit, love and enthusiasm’.

Hundreds of Max Fryman’s family and friends have taken to social media to pay their respects to the ‘amazing lad’.

The accident has led to a number of calls for a pedestrian bridge over the road or for the speed limit to be lowered.

As reported in yesterday’s Echo, South Dorset MP Richard Drax has written to Dorset County Council to ask what will be done.

The fatalities happened in the same spot where five-year-old Lily-Mae Jeffries died in a collision with a motorcycle in 2012.
