COMMUTERS on Portland had a bit of a shock after a car was left in a precarious position following a crash in the early hours of the morning.

An Audi A4 ended up on top of a lamppost and balancing on a boulder after a crash just after 2am this morning, on the A354 Portland Beach Road.

It is not yet known how much damage was caused to the car, with police sealing off the car as it waited to be recovered earlier this morning.

Police believe that the car, registered to a man in Blandford Forum, hit a lamppost before ploughing into the boulders and ending up in the unfortunate position.

The incident happened at 2.19am near the roundabout next to the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, and it is not thought anyone was injured in the crash.

The car was left in the precarious position all night before the vehicle was recovered earlier this morning.

A spokesman for the police said: “We received the call at 2.19am to a one vehicle road traffic collision on Portland Beach Road.

“The car involved was a grey Audi A4, registered to a man in Blandford Forum.

“The ambulance and fire service were not called to the scene and there is no indication of another car involved, it is believed the car hit a lamppost and then ended up there.”
