A LOVELY sunny afternoon at the fete was enjoyed by hundreds of visitors and local residents.

Wessex FM opened the festivities and entertainment was provided by Portland's Second Edition Majorettes, fiddler Titch Roberts and the Wareham Whalers who sang their sea shanties to the enjoyment of the crowd.

The dog show sponsored by Medivet, Wool, proved to be a great success with many entries. The pony rides and the many side stalls, beer tent, tea rooms and raffle encouraged the visitors to dig deep into their pockets and ensure record takings.

A big thanks must go to the organisers, local businesses and the army of 67 volunteers who gave their time and energy to man the many stalls and refreshment areas, and helped to set up and tidy up afterwards, too many to mention individually, but without their efforts there would be no fete.

Eileen Bramley, chairman of the Friends of the Parish committee who organise the fete, expressed the committee's gratitude to the many companies and individuals who donated prizes for the stalls, tombola and raffle. Charities that will benefit from the fete's fundraising are the Weymouth branch of Riding for the Disabled Association, which includes Rosewall Equestrian (who provided the pony rides), Wyvern Academy for children with complex needs, Osmington Village Hall and the material upkeep of St Osmunds Church.
