A WOMAN inspired to raise money for a charity which helped her late mother is delighted after the success of a garden pary.

Kerri Threadwell, from Portland, who lost her mother Mo Threadwell to cancer earlier this year, said she wanted to give back to Marie Curie Cancer Care to say thank you for the support both her mother and her family received.

She threw a garden party for friends, family and well-wishers and everyone had a great time enjoying a barbecue, cream teas and coffees, a Pimms tent and there was even a guest appearance from Minnie Mouse and Fireman Sam. The event raised £400.

Speaking about the support the family received, Kerri said: “The nurses were with my mum at least twice daily, as well as overnight, and the overall care was above and beyond, truly amazing.

“They also spent a lot of time with our family, supporting us, and we just want to give back the support they gave to us.”

She added: “We wanted to raise awareness of Marie Curie because of the wonderful job they do. You also never know when it might be you that needs the help.”

Kerri is also planning a sponsored walk for Marie Curie with her friend Cheryl Cox.

It will take place on August 29 and will go from her mother’s home in Underhill to her resting place in Portland Cemetery on Weston Road.

For the sponsored walk, first aiders will be on hand, and Tesco has donated bottled water.
