A GRENADE has been detonated by a bomb disposal unit on Chesil beach.
The grenade was found on the seaward side of Chesil Beach, Portland, not far from the Chesil Beach Centre.
Coastguards were alerted at around 2.10pm after receiving a report from a member of the public.
A spokeswoman said: "A member of the public located a hand grenade on Chesil Beach.
"Our coastguards are up on the scene. They have cordoned off the area. The EOD are coming down to detonate the grenade."
A witness told the Echo that the grenade was around 2km from the Chesil Beach Centre and has now been detonated by experts.
