A FAMILY-FRIENDLY music festival organised by a community radio station is returning to Weymouth this weekend.

AIR FM’s ‘Party in the Park’ will take place once again at Lodmoor Country Park on Sunday, featuring live music, stalls and activities for children.

Hundreds attended the station’s first event in May, enjoying performances from Lauren Bannon, The Leggomen and a farewell performance from Danny and the Goosemen.

The station, based at Westfield Arts College, initially hosted the event in May to celebrate its one-year anniversary of being broadcast on FM.

The Leggomen and Lauren Bannon will perform again this weekend between 11am and 6pm, along with new acts Tinlin and Nick Tatham.

Carl Greenham, station manager, said: “As a result of the success of our last event we decided to put this on in the summer to celebrate the carnival week.

“It’s going to be even bigger and better than before.

“We’ve got two stages this time. We’ve got 15 performers playing across the two stages.”

Mr Greenham said they had taken feedback on board from May’s event, hoping to satisfy the 1,000 people expected to attend this weekend.

He said: “The council have kindly allowed us to hold some food stalls.

“We’ve created a mini food village. There’s going to be a great selection of food on offer.

“We have provided a lot more entertainment for the children because obviously it’s a family festival.

“The whole event is being aired on 107.2FM.

“It’s being broadcast live. That’s a huge thing for the area to put a music festival on the radio.”

A bouncy galleon, visual displays, craft stalls, games and poetry will also be attractions at the event.

Admission is free but the radio station is hoping to raise some funds for the station by selling merchandise.

A festival programme will be available to buy on the day, featuring information about the acts and discount vouchers to use on the site.
