What about the weather? The Met Office says we'll see highs of 18C on Saturday with sunny spells in the morning before it clouds over in the afternoon. While Sunday will see light rain so don't forget to take your brolly with you.

1. Dorchester will be celebrating the armed forces while also raising vital funds for a local servicemen’s charity.

The Dorchester Military Festival is being held from 10am to 4pm in the Borough Gardens on Saturday (16).

There will be a range of displays, re-enactments, trade stands and children’s entertainment on offer.

The event will raise funds for the Rifles regimental charity Care for Casualties, which supports Riflemen who have lost limbs or been seriously injured in services as well as the families of those killed in action.

2. Hear the buzz about bees

A special event celebrating all things bee-related takes place at Knoll Gardens in Wimborne on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

There will be lots of activities on offer including guided walks, talks from bee experts and local bee-related products on sale such as honey and beeswax candles. Children can also make bee houses.

3. Join the Swanage Lifeboat Week celebrations

Swanage Lifeboat Week comes to a close this weekend with a host of events taking place at the seafront. The Lifeboat Festival and Fair will take place at Prince Albert Gardens on both days between 11am and 5pm, while on Saturday there will be a build a boat contest between 12pm and 4pm ahead of the build a boat race at The Stone Quay between 4pm and 5pm.

A raft race will also take place at main beach between 5pm and 6.30pm on Saturday. On Sunday, the Lifeboat Fun Run will take place between 9am and 10am and there will be a Lifeboat Service at Swanage Pier from 7pm.

4. Bridport Carnival rocks into town on Saturday.

The parade will move off from West Road at 7pm with the Wessex Military Band playing in Bucky Doo Square in the morning. The procession on Saturday, August 16 will be followed by a family disco in the Conservative Club and dancing in Bucky Doo Square.

Then on Sunday the hugely popular torchlight procession from the town hall to West Bay will leave at 9pm.

5. Witness the 80ft WW1 road run On Saturday

A 1914 WW1 Holt 75 Gun Tractor will be moved from Bovington’s Tank Museum to the Great Dorset Steam Fair site Tarrant Hinton site. The 80ft-long load will form part of a special WW1 display at this year’s event, which runs from 27th until 31st August.

A steam lorry, a Daimler lorry and a traction engine will also be part of the convoy and the crew will be dressed in British Army uniform from the time.

The load is scheduled to leave Bovington Tank Museum at 10.30am where it will travel to Tout Hill and onto Bere Regis before joining the A35 then the A31. Around 11.30am, just before the exit towards Winterborne Kingston, the load is scheduled for a break before travelling into Blandford. Onlookers will be able to take photographs while it stops for 45 minutes in Blandford Town Centre.

It will leave Blandford around 2.15pm and head up the A354 towards Pimperne, arriving at the showground at approximately 2.45pm. Timings are subject to change. Visit gdsf.co.uk for details

6. Enjoy Roald Dahl classic in the open air

Following on from their success with James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Twits, Illyria returns to bring Roald Dahl classic George’s Marvellous Medicine to life against the dramatic backdrop of Corfe Castle. 7. Join TV star Martin Clunes for Buckham Fair Pony and Dog Show at Beaminster on Sunday from 9.30am to 5pm.

The generous actor and his wife Philippa hold the fair annually to raise money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

There are separate classes for both dogs and ponies.

The event also includes fairground rides, a heavy horse show, vintage cars and scooters.

8. See some daring ocean rescues at West Bay Fun Day on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.

On the green there will be a tombola, coco-nut shy, prize raffle, duck race and various children’s games.

Watch a thrilling search and rescue display given by the Weymouth Lifeboat, Lyme Regis Lifeboat and HM Coastguard’s Portland Helicopter Rescue Team.

9. Cheer on runners who are making their way around ‘the rock’ on Sunday.

The Race around the Rock starts and finishes at Portland United Football Club at 10.30am.

9. Enjoy all the fun of Littlemoor Fun Day.

The annual event attracts thousands of people and this year is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

It is held in Top Club Field in Louviers Road, Littlemoor and there will be performances and displays from local groups, charity stalls, children’s rides and activities, trampolines, steam engine rides and many more activities.

It is taking place between noon and 4pm on Saturday.
