A WEYMOUTH boy is over the moon after receiving a new bike from a kindly donor.

Eoin Kelly, aged nine, was distraught when thieves stole his new bike – only a week after he got it as a birthday present.

But he has a smile back on his face after Portland woman Ellen Whenman read about his plight in the Dorset Echo and gave him a new bicycle.

She said she was delighted the gift had made him so happy.

She said: “It was purely because I saw the story in the Echo and I felt so sorry for the lad, especially because he had saved up his birthday money for the bike and it was the second time he’d had a bike stolen.

“I’m just pleased I could help in any way that I could.”

Eoin and his mum Claire went to see Mrs Whenman to say thank you and pick up the bike.

Eoin was thrilled. He said: “I’d like to say thank you very much. I’m very happy.”

Mrs Kelly, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant. He is made up. Thank you so much – it was very kind.”

Police launched an investigation into the theft after Eoin rode his new Apollo bike from his home off Littlemoor Road in Weymouth to a friend’s house in Geelong Close.

He left the bike at the gate of the garden and went into the house, and when he came out a few minutes later the bike was gone.

It was the second time that Eoin had been the victim of crime, after thieves stole his other bike a couple of years ago.

Dorset Police confirmed that Eoin’s bike had not been recovered and no-one has been arrested.
