THE RNLI came to the rescue of three people aboard a yacht that was caught in vicious currents off Portland race.
The volunteer crew of Weymouth RNLI allweather lifeboat were launched at approx 4.40pm on Thursday to the aid of the Dutch yacht Kwartet.
The 11m yacht had lost engine power and called Portland Coastguard for assistance. The Weymouth RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched and on arrival found the yacht had managed to start its engine and did not need help.
It was escorted back to Weymouth harbour at approximately 7.15pm.
It was met by Coastguards who offered safety advice to the crew.
