A MAJOR route through Dorset was closed for six hours today after a serious accident.

A car towing a boat was involved in the crash on the A350 Lower Blandford Road at Cann near Shaftesbury.

It is not thought anyone suffered life threatening injuries.

The road was closed in both directions between Foot’s Hill at Cann and the A30 Christy’s Lane junction at Shaftesbury.

The closure was lifted around 6pm - six hours after the accident.

The crash happened near to the Cann bridge turn-off.

A Dorset Police spokesman said that officers were called at 12.05pm and that the car and trailer had ended up on their sides.

No other vehicles were involved and it is not thought that there are any serious injuries, although one person was injured.

Nobody was trapped in the vehicle, said Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, but fire crews were called to help make the scene safe.

Police said recovery would have taken time because of the nature of the crash.
