LEARN more about fire safety at an open day on Portland.

The fire station on Grove Road, Portland, will be open on Saturday from 10am to 4pm to provide a fun and informative event for all the family.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet their local fire crews and see some of the methods they use to save lives every day.

The day will include displays of firefighting actions such as a chip pan fire, a road traffic collision and firefighting demonstration.

There will also be the opportunity to have a look around the appliances, sign up for a free home safety check and find out what crews at the station get up to a daily basis.

Portland station commander Bob Terrey said: “We’re hoping for a really good turnout this year as we have so much going on at the station.

“It will be a really great opportunity for all the family.”

He added: “This open day is a great chance for local residents to come and meet their local fire crew, learn how to protect their homes from fire, and see what activities and incidents we get involved with.”
