Two cyclists are taking on a monopoly themed race hoping to pass GO and collect £200 each for charity.

David Trotter and Owen Newton will be joining hundreds of other cyclists in a race around the capital to try and visit all of the locations from the iconic board game on October 31.

Riders earn points for each location they manage to reach when following an 80km, figure of eight track starting at Old Kent Road.

The pair will be raising money for the Teddy20 charity that was set up after Mr Newton’s son lost his fight with cancer aged ten. In connection with CLIC Sargent, the charity raises money to help children with cancer. Some money will also go towards the Kingfisher Ward of the Dorchester General Hospital.

Mr Newton said: “We are aiming to finish the cycle in about 3-4 hours with the money going towards projects and other events we are involved in.”

The pair have taken part in many charity events, including other rides but are training hard in preparation. Mr Newton said: “I have been using the cross-trainer and weight lifting in the gym whilst cycling 15-30 miles around Blandford. David has been doing the same, tackling some of the hills in Weymouth to get ready for the challenge.”

The ride begins at 10pm this Halloween with the route passing through some of the city’s most notorious horror locations. The current project is to raise enough money for a caravan in Dorset so that the children suffering from Cancer and life-threatening diseases can have some well deserved respite breaks.

Mr Newton said: “We haven’t decided on an exact location for the caravan but we do want it to be in Weymouth as it is central to the different hospitals that the children receive care from. The caravan will allow the children to get away from their treatment and relax with their families in a comfortable environment that still meets their needs.”

“There’s nothing like this in this area so the need to have somewhere for the children to relax and enjoy themselves is high.”

Mr Newton and Mr Trotter are hoping to raise £400 with this cycle event.
