COASTGUARDS have issued a warning after a rockfall on Portland.
Portland Coastguard was alerted to the rockfall at 3.15pm this afternoon, Sunday, August 24.
A spokesperson for the service said: “We investigated and there were no persons involved. There were a few climbers nearby so they were given safety advice and warned of the danger.
“There were rocks coming down at the scene and rubble at the bottom of the cliff.”
The rockfall happed at Cheyne, on the east coast of Portland, below Cheyne House.
People are being warned to stay away from the area.
The spokesman added: “We would like to reiterate our regular warning that the cliffs are unstable.
“They get waterlogged in heavy rain, and it then becomes a danger when they dry out and parts crumble.”
