THE ribbon was cut on a newly-refurbished village hall.

The Upwey and Broadwey War Memorial Hall in Victoria Avenue has been relaunched.

The ribbon was cut on the freshly revamped and repainted hall by the chairman of Trustees Graham Brant.

The hall has been redecorated and where once the colour scheme was pinks and purples, it has been refreshed with a new freesia colour palette.

Peter Blakey, treasurer of the Memorial Hall said: “We’ve been discussing redecorating the hall for about a year and had been umming and ahhing about the finances for quite a while but we finally came to a decision on colours and closed the hall for two weeks as it was a quieter time of the year.

“It cost about £7000 and it looks a lot better now, it was starting to look quite outdated and shabby which puts people off booking it out for events.”

“It was a great effort from all of the committee and it looks a lot more modern now.”

Committee members decided to revamp the hall for the anniversary of the First World War.

The war memorial hall is looking for more volunteers to help keep it running.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of the hall” Peter said.

“Anyone of any age can help out, they just need to be dedicated and able to spare some free time.

“We meet every two months for about an hour to discuss anything from redecorating the hall to the booking fees.

“The hall could have easily fallen into disrepair without the volunteers who help to run it, and we need people to come forward to help so that doesn’t happen in the future.
