Crowds lining Weymouth Esplanade were once again delighted by the fireworks as they returned for the Bank Holiday Monday.

And it is now hoped to bring the extravaganza back on three Monday evenings next year.

Sponsored by Weymouth businesses, the fireworks were accompanied by stalls in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Phil Say, head of a Weymouth seafront business group, said “We all clubbed together to resurrect this one event, providing local residents and visitors with a firework extravaganza during the peak August period.

Next year, it is hoped to extend the fireworks to three Mondays during August 2015, involving more of the town business.

Weldmar said it was were grateful to be invited as the benefiting charity.

Jon Panton said “Our stalls were originally planned to be on the Esplanade. The torrential rain during the day meant that we had to move them into the foyer of Weymouth Pavilion – to whom we are really grateful. Although the rain kept the crowds away during the day, we were lucky for clear skies just before and during the firework display. We would like to thank everyone that helped us to make the event such a success, helping us to raise money in order to continue our care of people and their loved ones diagnosed with life limiting diseases”.

Weldmar also wished to offer a special thank you to the students of Weymouth College, who gave up their time as part of the National Citizens Service (NCS) to assist the charity.

Anyone who would like to back the plan to have fireworks next August should contact Jon Panton, the Business Fundraising Manager for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, to pledge their help and financial support. He can be contacted on 01305 261800 or by email jonathan.panton@weld-hospice.org.uk”.
