A WOMAN was taken to hospital with head and back injuries after a crash on the A35 at Chideock.

The road through the village was closed in both directions after the crash and motorists were urged to avoid the area.

The crash took place outside the post office and police and ambulance both attended the scene.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said they were called at 2.16pm to a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian. He said the female casualty was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

He added: “She has head injuries and an injury to her back.”

However, a spokesman for Dorset Police said her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

Road closures were lifted at 3.10pm.

He said: “The car involved was a Vauxhall Corsa, registered to a lady from Devon.

“The incident is not thought to be life-threatening at this stage.”

The A35 in Chideock is the main route through the village and there were traffic backlogs towards Charmouth and Bridport.
