WINNING a new car at Weymouth Carnival doesn’t seem real yet for one family.

The Fance family said they are still in a state of shock after scooping the top prize in the draw – a brand new Citroën C1 car from MMC in Dorchester.

Michael and Lisa Fance were down in Weymouth on holiday with their sons Matthew, 11, and James, nine, when they bought their lucky winning tickets.

The family, from Guildford, have been coming down to the town for three years and stayed near Bowleaze Cove.

They brought two tickets for the grand prize draw the weekend before the Carnival. They do it every year to support the carnival, Mr Fance said, but they never expected to win.

After enjoying the carnival, the Red Arrows and fireworks, the family headed back to their accommodation, without waiting for the grand prize draw.

Mr Fance said he got a call the day after from the carnival organisers to tell him he had won.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it to be honest, it was quite surreal.

“I really couldn’t believe it. We have been coming here for three years and brought a couple of tickets each year to support the carnival. But you never expect to win. We were just gob smacked.

“I still don’t think it’s sunk in yet.”

The family collected the car last Saturday and Lisa and the boys drove it back to Guildford, while Mr Fance drove his wife’s car home.

Since then, the family said they have been going out for drives and enjoying the new car.

Mr Fance said the family would like to say a huge thank you to the carnival organisers and MMC in Dorchester.

Michael McManus from the Weymouth Carnival said: “We would like to say a huge congratulations to the Fance family.”

Mr MacManus said the whole family had been a ‘delight’ to chat to.
