PORTLAND Coastguards assisted in rescuing broken down boats and transporting a passenger who suffered an allergic reaction on an excursion trip to hospital.

Just before 11.30am, Portland Coastguard received a distress call from a motor boat after it broke down in Swanage Bay.

The boat, called Mistral, had one person on board and he managed to restart the engine shortly after being contacted by coastguards.

Two other vessels in the area monitored the situation, as the broken down vessel made its way slowly to shore, where it was then met by Swanage Coastguard Rescue Officers.

At 1.25pm, Portland Coastguard received a 999 call reporting a small dinghy had broken down off Charmouth Beach.

The dingy had two adults and three children on board. The people on board managed to restart the engine before coastguards launched a rescue mission, and returned safely to shore.

Just after 2pm, Portland Coastguards tasked Poole RNLI lifeboat after a passenger on an excursion vessel suffered a suspected allergic reaction.

The incident happened on the Solent Scene vessel, and the lifeboat transported the patient to an ambulance that was waiting nearby on Bournemouth Pier.

At 2.56 pm, Portland Coastguard received a call from Dorset Police after a man was standing on the edge of the cliff on Peveril Point in Swanage.

The man had reportedly consumed a lot of alcohol, and Portland Coastguard tasked local coastguard officers to investigate the incident.

Officers from the Swanage National Coastwatch Lookout reported they had seen the man on a bench near the cliff edge, but that he had been in the area for the last two days and was sleeping rough in the area.

At 4.26pm, Mudeford RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was tasked to a broken down motor boat.

The boat, called Sweet Chilli, had three adults and three children on board and suffered engine failure south of Hengistbury Head.

Once on scene, the RNLI towed the vessel back to Christchurch Harbour.

Coastguards also attended a number of minor incidents at the Bournemouth Air Festival, mostly involving missing people, vessels in difficulties, persons unwell and small craft drifting out to sea.

All of these incidents were dealt with by the multi-agency control room, which included Southbourne and Poole Coastguard Officers, RNLI teams from Poole, Mudeford and Poole Bay, Dorset Police and South West Ambulance Service.
