A PORTLAND woman has completed a charity walk to raise money for epilepsy research after her nephew died of Dravet Syndrome, a rare and often unmanageable form of epilepsy than begins in infancy and can be fatal.
As reported in the Echo, Mandy Burley, 42, planned to undertake a 10 mile power walk around Weymouth, reaching the starting line of the Portland Athletics Club’s ‘Portland 10’ annual event going around the island and out to the Bill, finishing at IPACA.
She aimed to raise money and awareness for Epilepsy Research UK and completed the whole 20 miles in just under four hours.
The challenge raised over £4,000 in total, in memory of her baby nephew Ethan Carter.
She said: “I came over the finish line with a smile on my face, a tear in my eye, an ache in my heart and a huge hug for my dear sister.”
Mrs Burley and her family sent their thanks to all those who gave messages of support and promoted the challenge.
