A POPULAR fete attended by a popular TV star is set to be the biggest and best ever.

Weldmar Hospice is gearing up for its 19th annual Summer Fete, once again attended by actor Martin Clunes.

Last year’s event raised more than £24,000 to help with the care of terminally ill people. And this year, as well as a barbecue, vintage cars and a barn owl, there’s a chance to win a walk-on part in Doc Martin.

This year’s silent auction has more than 80 lots, also including a walk on part in another show starring Martin Clunes, Arthur and George. A chance to meet Downtown Abbey creator Julian Fellowes is also up for grabs.

Event organiser Matt Smith said: “This is an event that the team looks forward to every year. It is a great family day out and there really is something for all ages. I am pleased that we are hosting the traditional popular stalls again this year as well as adding new fun and games to the day.

“I really do encourage people of all ages to come along and have a great day out.

As well as enjoying yourself you will also be supporting your local hospice, a service that is so vital here in Dorset.”

New for 2014, there will be a free Park & Ride from Dorchester Town Football Club that will be operating from 10.30am-4.30pm to the hospice and back.

Matt added: “Every year this event has got bigger and we are now attracting supporters from out of Dorchester.

“We will be providing a park and ride, so people from outside the town can also enjoy the day. This will be a free service and will also cater for disabled supporters.”

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by acts including Rock Choir, The Decadettes and Weymouth ukulele players.

All the stalls at the fete are staffed by volunteers and all the money that is taken on the day goes straight to caring for patients and their loved ones across Dorset.

The fete takes place on Saturday, September 13 from 11am-4pm at Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester. Entrance is £1 per adult with children admitted for free. To see a full list of stalls, visit weld-hospice.org.uk/fete.
