SOW, WHAT are you lot up to then?

One nosy pig could not help having a sniff around after it stumbled across a building site in Weymouth – much to the delight of passers-by and the workers on site.

But, unlike the little piggy from the market, this one didn’t go all the way home and stayed around for a short while to have a roll around in the mud and inspect the machinery and materials being used on the site.

The unusual occurrence happened just after the builders’ lunch break on the Pemberly homes development off Louviers Road in Littlemoor, a 176-housing development being built by Dorset-based construction company FH Cummings Unlimited.

It is believed the pig escaped from a nearby farm across the field from the construction site and the workmen contacted a local farmer who came and collected the pig. Esme Nicholls was cycling on the road by the housing development when she managed to take these pictures of the pig and said it looked like the animal was enjoying itself on the site.

She said: “The workmen didn’t have a clue it was on the site until it approached them. They didn’t know where it came from and it certainly looked happy rolling in the mud.

“It just kept rolling in the mud and walking past the tractors and the trucks.

“The workmen didn’t seem to mind, they just kept taking pictures and it was there for about 10 or 15 minutes.”

Andrew Cummings, director of FH Cummings, was on the site at the same time as the pig.

Mr Cummings said: “It came on to the site about 2pm and was right in the middle of the site.

“It had a look around the foundations and was quite interested in a few of the guys, especially the one who fed it an apple.

“After about 15 minutes we called the farmer, it was all good fun really. It’s something you don’t see every day.”

A spokesman for the RSPCA said the pig may have been attracted to the mud on the building site, and if a member of the public spots a wandering pig or other farmyard animal, report it to the RSPCA on 0300 1234999.
