THERE’S a chance this weekend to enjoy some sporting action, meet a celebrity and show your support for the Portland Coastguard. Here’s all you need to know.

1. Meet a celebrity and raise money at Weldmar Fete

MEET celebrity guest Martin Clunes at the Weldmar Summer Fete tomorrow.

Held between 11am and 4pm, visitors can enjoy live entertainment throughout the day including performances from The Decadettes, the Weymouth Ukuleleans and Rock Choir.

Other displays will include vehicles of yesteryear, Goldwings and steam engines.

Entrance is £1 for adults and children go free at the fete, which is at the Joseph Weld Hospice in Herringston Road, Dorchester.

2. Grab a bite to eat at the Wessex Food Festival

FOODIES can enjoy the best of West Country food, drink and chefs at Weymouth College this weekend.

The Wessex Food Festival will feature more than 60 stands selling everything from olives to oils, wine to wood and cake to coffee.

The college square will feature a food court where people can enjoy a delicious lunch. The festival takes place between 10am and 5pm on both days. Entry is £2.50 for adults, £2 for concessions and children under 16 are free.

3. To go, or not to go...THAT is the question

SOAK up Shakespeare in Lyme Regis on Wednesday. The Propeller Theatre Company presents a pocket-sized version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Marine Theatre at 1.30pm and 8pm.

Love and illusion collide when two pairs of lovers become entangled in fairy michief on the eve of a royal wedding.

4. Ready... Set... Go!

HEAD down to Weymouth seafront to cheer on all the competitors in the Challenge Weymouth triathlon on Sunday.

Fresh from finishing in second place at the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham in July, professional athlete Phil Mosley is hoping that he can go one better by finishing first at Challenge Weymouth.

5. Say your own thank you to Portland Coastguard

 PEOPLE are being urged to turn out and say thank you to Portland Coastguard tomorrow.

A special flotilla will be sailing down the harbour at 4.30pm to thank the coastguards for all their work, a few days before the station closes.

It will include both Weymouth lifeboats, TS Pelican as well as many other boats, and will muster at the Pleasure Pier area.

At 4.55pm they will set sail down the harbour.

They will then turn round in front of the coastguard station on the harbourside at 5pm and sound their horns, before sailing back out to sea.

6. Sing the night away at a Bryan Adams gig

GO back to the Summer of ’69 at the BIC in Bournemouth when Canadian rocker Bryan Adams comes to town.

Bryan will be going back to basics with his Bare Bones Acoustic Tour at the Windsor Hall.

7. Watch some amazing acrobatics this weekend

POOLE Park and The Quay will host the annual Inside Out, Arts Festival. The festival focuses on combining art with rural Dorset scenery and from Friday until Sunday, Poole Park will be taken over by French Trapeze specialists, Cirk Vost who will stage their acrobatic show, BoO. T

he open air show sees acrobats tumble and twirl to music on a 15 metre high bamboo structure. Get down to Poole Park and Quay between 12-9.30pm all weekend, where entry is free!

8. Watch teams pull a Boeing 737

The Dorset Plane Pull was postponed due to bad weather last month but the good news is the forecast looks far more promising for Saturday when it is due to take place.

The event, which is held at Bournemouth Airport, will see more than 15 teams compete to see who can pull a Boeing 737 the furthest distance.

There will also be bouncy castles for the kids, face painting and our Punch & Judy Show, plus a BBQ and music from duo Scarlett Swing. The fun all kicks off at 10am.

9. Cheer on all the good sports

SWANAGE is hosting the Purbeck marathon once again this Sunday. Although places may be filled to take part, there is still the chance to pop down and support all of this year’s runners as they travel through the beautiful landscape.

The Marathon begins and ends in Swanage, whilst moving through Durlston Country Park and along the Jurassic Coast path through Worth Matravers, Kingston and Corfe Castle.

The race starts at 9.30am on the Downs, above Swanage pier, and finishes along Shore Road and onto Sandpit Field where there will be stalls.

10. Your last chance to explore Portland’s b-side festival

RUNNING until September 14, the b-side contemporary arts festival takes an alternative view of Portland, exploring this island location and its rich geo-graphical, social and cultural histories.
