RESTAURANT owners and publicans have been put on alert after the theft of more than 100 partridges, some of which were later apparently killed in a field near Martinstown.

The Echo reported last week that police in Dorchester were investigating the theft of 125 Red Legged French Partridges from three separate locations near the town.

The thefts occurred between 8pm last Monday and 8.30am the following day.

On Saturday police received reports of a large quantity of partridges that had been found in a field near Martinstown.

They had been killed and the breast meat removed.

Inspector Steve Marsh of Dorchester Police said: “These birds were almost certainly stolen from premises outside of Dorchester earlier in the week.

“Restaurant owners and publicans in particular may be offered this meat and I would ask that anyone with information calls Dorchester Police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorchester Police Station on 101.
