A new operation has been launched in Purbeck to reduce burglary and vehicle crime offences in the area.

Operation Impact will see a dedicated team of officers carry out daily patrols to target crime hot spots, known prolific offenders and issue crime prevention advice to residents.

The Force will be using a combination of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) vehicles and high-visibility foot patrols to concentrate on areas targeted by offenders.

Officers from local Safer Neighbourhood Teams will also be actively patrolling Poole and Purbeck to offer reassurance and issue crime prevention advice to the community.

Police Sergeant Adrian Thompson, of Poole and Purbeck police, said: “Operation Impact is Dorset Police’s response towards reducing acquisitive crime offences, such as burglary, vehicle crime and rural crime in the area. We will be using a wide range of tactics to target prolific offenders and reduce the number of victims of crime.

“I would like to remind residents that they can also play a part by following some simple crime prevention steps to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

“Ensure valuables and popular electrical items such as tablets and laptops, sat navs and cradles are not left on display and that all windows and doors are securely locked when you leave your home or car.

“I would also urge residents to ensure their sheds, garages and outbuildings are locked.

“Do not be complacent. If you see someone acting suspiciously in your area please call us on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress so we can send officers and investigate.”

Members of the public can help protect themselves and their property by following some simple crime prevention steps.
