A DORSET hotel has been named the best in Britain in the Sunday Times’ Ultimate 100 British Hotels 2014.

The Pig on the Beach, a boutique hotel near Swanage, was picked from hundreds of hotels reviewed for the second year of the prize list, which awards establishments for their character, good service, comfort and value.

Scooping the Best in Britain award, the Studland-based hotel’s reviewer said the former Manor House won the top spot for its local food and intuitive service, saying “they knew what I wanted, usually before I did,” adding: “I went to pick some holes in the rooms. I couldn’t.”

Robin Hutson, Chairman of The Pig on the Beach, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for the whole team who have worked so hard in pulling this project together. This is a very special hotel and location and a great result for our first foray into Dorset.”
