A NEW website that brings together information about care and support services in Dorset has been launched in Dorchester today.

Dorset County Council launched the My Life My Care website at Dorchester Library and Learning Centre on International Older People’s Day.

The new directory is aimed at helping people lead independent lives and features a whole range of information on issues such as access to help around the home and personal care services, transport options, dealing with money worries, keeping mobile and staying safe.

Head of adult services at the county council Andrew Archibald said: “It’s a new website to help to provide information and for people to lead independent lives.”

He added: “The website is designed so people look at the help they would like or information on leisure activities and they tick boxes and it will then lead them to pages for their local area.”

At the launch event Superfast Dorset Digital Champions were on hand at the county town library to help people explore the new directory.

Digital Champions were also at hand at Bridport, Wyke Regis and Lyme Regis libraries on the day.

Mr Archibald said: “Not everybody can access computers but this is a really important start for us giving people that access to information and signposting.”

Mr Archibald said the website could also be used by carers, friends and family who are looking for information.

He said: “It’s about making the information freely available and bringing it together in one place.”

Mr Archibald said that another positive element of the project was that it had involved joint working between Dorset County, Bournemouth Borough and Borough of Poole councils to create a truly Dorset wide resource.

Cabinet member for adult social care Jill Haynes said: “Sometimes a little help goes a long way, and the new directory draws together information about staying healthy and safe, highlighting services and organisations to help people stay independent in their own homes.

“We also want to celebrate the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society.”
