CHILDREN at Manor Park First School have set up their own cafe to apply their maths skills.

Year 4 youngsters at the Dorchester school have been running their Caterpillar Cafe for the 15th year.

The theme for the cafe this time round was based on Unicef article 28, which states: ‘Every child has a right to education’.

Tips from the cafe have been shared between two charities, a global charity in the form of The Samarpan School in New Delhi India, and a local one the Dorchester Food Bank.

The Eagle Class and Giraffe Class welcomed children from the school to their cafe with visitors also coming in from First Steps Pre-School and St Osmund’s Middle School as well as family and friends.

Year 4 teacher Esther Derrien said: “It was a real life opportunity for the children to use and apply their maths skills. “The children waited on tables, made up bills, washed up and made and served cakes.

“The children have really enjoyed the experience of running the cafe and all the staff are very proud of the children. They have done a great job!

“The school would like to say a huge thank you to local businesses for their support.”
