A 16-year-old girl was assaulted by a drunken man in Weymouth.

Dorset Police are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information regarding the assault, which happened at the bus stop next to Weymouth Hospital on Dorchester Road last Wednesday.

The incident, in which a 16-year-old girl was attacked, happened at approximately 3.15pm when a man approached the victim from the direction of the pub and kept saying "you’re gorgeous" while she was waiting for the bus having finished college for the day.

The man subsequently grabbed her arm to pull her off the bus stop bench.

A passing member of the public asked the victim if she was alright, she replied that she wasn’t and the passer-by told the man to go away, which he did.

Police believe it is an isolated incident, but are hoping members of the public would have seen the attack as it happened in broad daylight.

The offender is described as white, of slim build, around five feet 10 inches and in his late 40s.

He was wearing black jogging bottoms, a black Nike hooded top and a grey beanie hat. The black hoodie was up over the top of the grey beanie.

Police Constable Jane Bayliss, of Weymouth police, said: “The man was heavily intoxicated and slurring his words.

"This incident left the victim badly shaken and upset, particularly as she regularly uses this bus stop.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any details about the man responsible. Anyone with information that may assist my investigation should contact Dorset Police.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 15:0352.
