IT’S APPLEY ever after at Kingston Maurward.

Kingston Maurward College welcomed visitors from far and wide for the annual Apple and Harvest Day.

The day was set in the College’s brand new state-of-the-art horticulture glasshouses and was deemed a great success.

People of all ages were able to view the creative vegetable harvest displays, identify vast varieties of apples and potatoes, sample cider and browse trade stands.

The day was raising money for the College’s Walled Garden Gate Fund.

Students, staff and volunteers all donated homemade cakes to sell including, fruitcakes, beetroot cake and carrot cakes, while the ‘Dorset Apple Cake’ and ‘Green Man’ competitions proved popular among guests.

Head of horticulture Joanna Jeffery said: “We had a great response to the cake competition and the Green Man competition, brilliant vegetable displays by the students, and such a lot of effort and support from everyone.

“We’re delighted there is continued interest in this event, which just reflects the public’s interest in growing fruit and vegetables.”

Meaanwhile, hundreds of people took advantage of a break in the weather to attend the 7th annual Bridport Community Orchard Apple Day.

Groves Nurseries, Transition Town Bridport, Communities Living Sustainably, and the Dorset Wildlife Trust were among the stalls set up for the day. Staff from Bridport Town Council and town mayor Maggie Ray were also present for the occasion.
