A TOUCHING picture of a little Weymouth boy who misses his daddy features in a heart-warming Army families’ calendar.

One-year-old Carter James Gray is set to bring a smile all year round as he stars in a calendar put together by the charity My Daddy is a Soldier Adventures.

The charity, which was set up by Bovington Army wife Louise Fetigan to support youngsters of Army personnel, sought photographic entries of ‘special moments’ between soldiers and their children for its 2015 calendar.

The picture of Carter looking at a photograph of his dad, Lance Corporal Adam Gray, was selected for February.

L/Cpl Gray serves with the military police and his job means he is away from home for months at a time. His portrait at home is draped with a little flag which acts as a countdown for when he will be home again, a gift from the charity.

Carter’s mum Amy said he kisses the picture each night before he goes to bed and she thought it would make a touching photograph.

She said: “I am overwhelmed that Carter has been chosen for a space in the calendar.

“I am so proud of my little boy and how even though his daddy is away, he recognises him still and likes to kiss photos of him.

“I’ve done this as a surprise for his dad and can’t wait to share the good news and surprise him with the calendar.”

My Daddy is a Soldier Adventures supports the children of British soldiers and aims to build a community where the children and parent at home can support each other, share their experiences and have coping mechanisms for long tours.

The charity has developed unique resources such as the ‘separation pack’ which includes monthly charts that the children use to count down until their mother or father is home again.

Louise Fetigan, founder of My Daddy is a Soldier Adventures, said: “Growing up in an army family can be so hard but also so rewarding.

“The pictures we received show just how special the bond between a soldier and their family is. Having a special photo of the soldier can be a great way for young children to stay connected with their mum or dad.”

Louise won an award last year for her efforts setting up the organisation.

The calendar costs £9.99 and can be purchased through the online shop at mydaddyisasoldieradventures.org
