MORE than 30 schools across Dorset are learning about saving energy this month.

Throughout November, schools across Dorset are taking part in Energy Month, an initiative run by EDF Energy’s schools programme, The Pod.

The free educational project is designed to inspire young people to explore the big energy questions in our world today with practical activities, interactive games and even a mobile app.

Young people in schools will explore topics ranging from the history of power and its invention right through to how energy can be produced in a low carbon way.

Older pupils will engage in debates on a range of issues, such as the benefits and drawbacks of each energy source, from coal and gas through to nuclear, wind and solar.

Max Bishop, Schools Energy Officer at Dorset County Council said: “There is so much we can do to teach our young people about being more energy aware, so we’re thrilled so many schools in Dorset are getting involved.”

  •  Schools taking part include: Piddle Valley CE VA First School, Southill Primary School, St Johns CE VC First School, Sturminster Newton High School, Winton Primary School, Bridport Primary School, West Moors Middle School, Westfield Arts College, Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy and Merley First School.
