A NEW and modern animal science centre has been opened in Dorchester.
Oliver Letwin, MP for West Dorset, joined staff and students at Kingston Maurward College for the official opening ceremony.
The new Coneygar Centre replaces outdated, cramped facilities with modern resources.
The centre houses five classrooms, an ICT suite, dog grooming salon, rooms for small animals, reptiles and amphibians and a specialist aquatic teaching area. In celebration of the opening, guests enjoyed an address by Mr Letwin, a tour of the new building and its facilities, followed by lunch and further demonstrations at the College’s Equine Arena and onsite dairy.
Kingston Maurward College principal Clare Davison added: “This Animal Science Centre will be an enormous asset to the college, meeting the highest welfare standards for animals and allowing students to benefit from the best resources. It replaces long outgrown animal conservation and welfare academy classrooms, which can now be used for other purposes.”
The £2.3 million project was funded through the Scape framework and work was carried out by construction experts, Kier, Dorchester architects A&Q and structural engineers Calcinotto.
