BUS drivers are hoping to build trust and confidence with young people after holding a workshop.

Students from All Saints School and Westfield Technology College took part in the event at Weymouth Community Fire Station.

The event was organised by First Buses and Dorset County Council.

The workshop looked at ways in which confidence and trust can be built up between young people and bus drivers – using role plays to explore common scenarios.

Cllr Toni Coombs, Dorset County Council’s cabinet member for education and communi-cations, said: “We’re so pleased this first workshop was such a success for both the students and the bus company.

“Hopefully, it might even encourage other public transport providers to run similar courses.”

The students were joined by a Dorset Deputy Member of Youth Parliament, along with four drivers and a representative from Bus Users UK.

First Buses are hoping to take the workshop format across the south west region.
