A MAN from the Weymouth area is suffering from ‘serious, life threatening injuries’ after being involved in an accident in Broadmayne.

The 59-year-old man was in a grey Ford Focus that ended up on its roof after hitting a telegraph pole on the A352.

The man has been airlifted to Southampton Hospital by Devon Air Ambulance. His next of kin has been informed.

Dorset Police said they were called at 11.53am to the accident outside Littlemayne Lodge.

The fire brigade were also called to help the man who was trapped inside the car.

By 12.03pm the man was out of the car and in the ambulance.

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue said they were called by the ambulance service at 11.55am and sent two crews to the scene, from Weymouth and Dorchester.

The spokesman said: “One male casualty was released from the car prior to our arrival. Crews made the car safe."

Road closures were put in place through Broadmayne and at the West Stafford bypass whilst paramedics attended the casualty.

Sgt Joe Pardey, from Weymouth Traffic Police, said: "It was a single traffic collision involving a grey Ford Focus driven by a 59-year-old man from the Weymouth area.

"He has suffered serious, life threatening injuries and has been taken to Southampton Hospital by air ambulance.

"His next of kin has been informed. We do not believe any other vehicles have been involved but we are appealing for witnesses.

"The road will now remain closed until investigations and recovery work is complete."

The A352 remained closed between Dorchester and Knighton Lane for a number of hours.

The road closure was lifted at around 3pm.
