Michael Portillo entered the House of Commons in 1984.

He was a minister for 11 years and had three positions in the Cabinet, including Secretary of State for Defence.

Since leaving politics, he has devoted himself to writing and broadcasting, is a regular on both BBC1’s sardonic political This Week programme and Radio 4’s The Moral Maze.

There will be some bargains up for grabs at a fundraising auction in Weymouth tomorrow.

The One World Auction takes place at the former St Augustine’s Church in Dorchester Road. Viewing is from 10.30am and the event starts at noon.

A fundraising opera concert due to be performed in Dorchester tomorrow has been cancelled.

Internationally-renowned opera stars Sally Matthews, right, and Finuur Bjarnason were due to perform at St Mary’s Church.

Get your dance shoes on for Dreadzone at the Electric Palace in Bridport tonight from 7.30pm.

As well as live favourites from their back catalogue the band will be showcasing new tracks from Escapades at their shows in 2014. Tickets cost £17 on the door.

Party along with B Sharp at the charity’s annual party in Lyme Regis, pictured above, tomorrow at the Marine Theatre.

The charity, which changes young people’s lives through music, throws the party every year as part of its fundraising.
