A NEW charity in Dorset aiming to help reconnect isolated carers with society through technology is looking for support.

Dorset Computers4Carers has been set up to help full-time home carers who feel lonely and isolated. As a full time carer for a loved one, life can become very solitary, often leading to a complete lack of social life or any personal interests.

Dorset Computers4Carers is hoping to change that for many, but needs donations of laptops, tablets or similar.

The organisation wants to provide the carer with a laptop computer, or a tablet, and the help, training and support they need to become confident in using it.

A spokesman said: “We need companies, organisations, individuals – anyone who is replacing their old laptops, not more than five years old and with at least Windows 7, to consider donating them to us. We will replace the hard drive, so that no data can be transferred, unless you are sure the hard drive is clean. Then it will find a home with a carer, where it will quickly become an invaluable part of their life.

“We are working in partnership with Dorset County Council through the Dorset Carers Support Project Fund, and also trying to raise funds through local events.

“We would gratefully welcome donations of funds, to enable us to pay for replacement hard drives and other software if needed, for internet access if the carer would find this difficult to afford.”
