Reindeer will take centre stage at this year’s Bridport Christmas Cheer event on Wednesday, December 3.

Live reindeer Cupid and Comet will be posing for photographs after they have pulled the Snow Queen on a glittering antique sleigh.

People will have the opportunity to admire and feed them at their resting place in AmSafe car park, opposite Waitrose. There will also be an opportunity for people to have their picture taken with the reindeer.

There will be so much to see and do at the event including late night shopping, art, craft and farmers markets, music, food stalls, children’s entertainment and the all-important visit from Father Christmas and the switch on of the Christmas lights. Bridport Town Council surveyor Daryl Chambers said the council had already had more than £2,000 worth of applications from stallholders.

Mr Chambers said: “It is being very well supported.”

He said the council had been hoping to extend the event down South Street but had met with opposition from Dorset County Council worried about the number of residents who would not be able to get to and from their homes with a street closure.

He said Christmas trees were being picked up and the lights would go up in the town on Sunday.

He added: “The tree on Bucky Doo will be getting a ‘hair cut’ again it has just grown unbelievably.

“The festival we are anticipating will be bigger and better than ever, weather permitting.

“If we get good weather for the festival that will mean every event we have done this year has not had rain.”

Bridport Christmas Cheer is a community event and offers the opportunity to celebrate and showcase the best of Bridport Town.

The event will start at 4pm and go on until 8pm at various locations throughout Bridport Town Centre.

A full programme of events will be available soon.
