A NEW exhibition by a local artist at the Dorset County Museum has got off to a successful start.

The Landscape and Identity exhibition featuring the work of Dorset painter Phyllis Wolff was launched earlier this month and achieved considerable sales success on its opening night.

The display features over a dozen paintings of trees captured at different times of the day and in different seasons as well as hills, gardens, ponds and some classic local landscapes.

Phyllis’s exhibition also includes some of her characteristic map paintings, coastal scenes and a number of watercolours.

Marketing and PR manager at the Dorset County Museum Rachel Cole said: “Her work is inspiring and uplifting.

“It will give a great deal of pleasure, not just at Christmas but for many years.”

Comments taken from the visitors’ book at the museum describe the work on show as ‘beautiful paintings that capture the magic of nature’ and describe how ‘the colour filled the room with warmth’.

The exhibition runs at the museum until Christmas Eve and entry is free.
