A DORCHESTER toy store has made a plea for customers to help underprivileged children at Christmas by adding one more gift to their shopping list this year.

Staff working at the Dorchester Toymaster say they are proud to have been a key supporter of the Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal since it first launched 15 years ago and are urging their customers to donate.

Pete Healey, store manager, said: “I have been overwhelmed by the phenomenal success of this year’s Christmas toy appeal. “Our customers’ generosity continues to astound me. Last year, one kind person donated a £100 train set.

“There is never a shortage of infant gifts, however it is wonderful this year that the older children have been recognised and donations including arts and craft items, gift vouchers, CDs, DVDs and fragrance gift sets have been flooding in.

“It is easy to get caught up in the commercialism of Christmas and forget how fortunate our children already are. “If you can afford to purchase one extra gift, it really would make another child’s day.” How to donate to the Toy Appeal: We are looking for 30 businesses to donate £100 each for our appeal.

This has been amazingly successful in previous years and has been the main way that the toy appeal has been able to provide so many toys and gifts for underprivileged children.
