THE story of George Gershwin’s life is coming to Bridport Arts Centre on Tuesday, December 16.

Written and narrated by renowned actress Susan Porrett, Classic Gershwin tells the story of Gershwin's life with musical illustrations from Viv McLean.

Popular composer, musical genius, jazzer, commercial songwriter, showbiz celebrity, intellectual, sportsman, art collector, ladies’ man, dandy, proud American, traditional Jewish family man?

McLean is a much sought-after Gershwin interpreter, who has toured the US with the RPO and the late Marvin Hamlisch.

Following the great success of their words and music collaboration Divine Fire – the story of Chopin and George Sand – and by popular request, Susan Porrett and Viv McLean present another production with SevenStarProductions The focus of the production is to present the many fascinating little-known aspects of Gershwin’s life and to explore the unresolved question surrounding his music: Is it jazz? Is it classical? Does it matter?
