A DANCE school based in Weymouth and Portland will stand up to cancer by hosting an evening of entertainment.

Platinum Dance School, which has four main branches in Portland, Preston, Broadmayne and Weymouth, is organising a charity event that will take place next month, raising money on behalf of Cancer Research UK.

Liane Jeffries, owner and teacher of the school, said she aims to help prevent patients and their families suffering.

She said: “I’ve got a few people in my family who have recently died from cancer. It’s important to try and raise as much money as possible.

“We did one a couple of years ago to raise money for Help for Heroes. It went really well. We managed to send off just over £1,000 to them.”

Members of the dance school are familiar faces to those at the Pavilion, having performed at the venue on several occasions since 2010.

Joining the dance school and performance group on the bill will be a variety of entertainment acts.

These acts include Rus Andrews and his magicians, the Yetminster Irish Dancers, the Holy Trinity Primary School choir, and a performance from West End singer Charlotte Anne Steen.

Despite recently starring in the Rock of Ages musical, Charlotte started from humble beginnings. She starred as Snow White in a pantomime at Weymouth Pavilion in 2011.

The evening’s entertainment will also include performances from other local singers.

Liane said: “It’s really nice that everyone’s getting behind us. Obviously the aim is to raise as much money as possible as well.

“Please come and support not only the local talent but also the amazing charity. It should be a really good variety event.”

The event will be held at Weymouth Pavilion on Saturday, February 28, starting at 7pm.

Tickets cost £9.50 each and can be bought either at the Pavilion box office or online by visiting www.weymouthpavilion.com
