A SANDCASTLE on a sunny beach will become the logo for a group fighting to regain public access to Castle Cove beach.

The Friends of Castle Cove Beach group ran a competition at the end of last year to design a logo for them.

The logo will be used on all their publicity.

Nearly 200 entries were received, from pupils at Wyke primary schools, Budmouth and All Saints secondary schools, with the bulk coming from children at Holy Trinity Primary School.

The winner was Jordan, aged 10, a pupil at Holy Trinity, who received a sketching set.

All the children who entered the competition were awarded small prizes to say thank you.

Featuring two children making sandcastles on a sandy beach with the sun beaming down, the judging panel chose the design because it will work ‘really well’ as a logo.

It took the judges, local artists Pat March and Olivia Nurrish, almost five hours to display all the logos and decide upon the winner.

The friends group hope to organise a display of all the entries at Weymouth Library later in the year.

Olivia Nurrish said: “It was incredibly difficult because all the entries were of such a very high standard, but we chose Jordan’s design in the end because we think it will work really well as a logo.”

Competition organiser Clare Sutton said: “All the children should be extremely proud of themselves.

“Almost any of the designs could have won and we hope having this great new logo will be a big boost to our campaign to restore safe access to our lovely beach.”

She added: “It was such fun coming back to Holy Trinity for their assembly as I went there myself many moons ago and took my children to nursery and then school there from 2004 to 2014.

“The children were a credit to their school, and almost all of them said they had been to the beach. It’s a fabulous school and I’d like to say a massive thank you to assistant head Matt Ryan for all his help with this.”
