PREPARATIONS for this year’s Bridport Carnival in August are already underway.

The carnival committee is asking organisations if they want funds in exchange for help with the carnival. Those interested are invited to go along to its meetings leading up to the August event so decisions can be made on the help needed, which might be leaflet distribution or collecting.

More energetic groups may be asked to help put out and collect traffic cones before and after the procession, torchlight procession and bonfire fireworks display.

Acting secretary Joyce Dunford said: “Bridport Carnival is a family-friendly event so come and join in the fun and get a financial reward. As [they were] last year, the events will be held all in one week. It is hoped a new attraction will kick off events on Sunday, August 9.

“The usual popular events of quiz, bingo and darts will be held at various venues in the town. The grand procession will be held on Saturday August 15 and, once again, will start from West Allington and finish at Morrisons in West Bay Road.”

The week’s events will culminate with the torchlight procession, pictured above, and a bonfire on East Beach followed by fireworks on the pier.
