RESIDENTS in Weymouth have been left without gas after a leak caused an emergency closure of Newstead Road.

Southern Gas Network engineers are currently working to repair a gas leak which has left all of the properties in Pottery Lane in Weymouth without gas.

Road closures are in place at the Pottery Lane junction on Newstead Road and are expected to be in place until 4pm on Thursday afternoon.

Drivers are being advised to find alternative routes if possible.

A spokesman for Dorset County Council said the road will remain closed until 4pm on thursday afternoon due to poor weather conditions while engineering works take place.

They added that residents in Pottery Lane may need to speak to SGN site staff about how to access their properties or visit the SGN website.

A spokesperson for SGN said: "The closure in Newstead Road, at its junction with Longcroft Lane and Pottery Lane, will remain in place for the rest of today at least while we carry out an ongoing investigation into the cause. This is a busy four-way junction, so this could cause delays for motorists."

"Due to the closure, access to Pottery Lane and Longcroft Lane from Newstead Road will be unavailable.

"Access will be available into Pottery Lane and Longcroft Lane via Goldcroft Road. Access will also be maintained for residents of Newstead Road.

"We would like to apologise for the disruption caused by our work."
