NEWSTEAD Road has been reopened after emergency gas repair works were carried out.

The road was closed on Tuesday this week after water entered the underground gas supply pipes leaving all of the properties on Pottery Lane without a gas supply.

Gas supplier SGN was forced to close Newstead Road at the Pottery Lane junction as they carried out the emergency repair work, and they reopened the road yesterday (Thursday 29) after the repairs were completed.

A spokesman for SGN said: “Gas supplies to around 60 properties in the Pottery Lane area of Weymouth were affected on Tuesday morning.

“The local gas network at this location is owned by Indigo Pipelines. We have been working on behalf of Indigo Pipelines to repair the damage and restore gas supplies as quickly as possible.

“It was necessary for Newstead Road to be closed while we carried out repair works.

“It was established that water had entered the network. Our engineers located where water entered the gas main and we now have completed our repairs.

“We have now reinstated the road surface and reopened Newstead Road.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank road-users and residents for their patience while we completed this work.”
