A TEEN who has suffered from diabetes since she was an infant is running six miles and putting on a show night to help others with the condition.

Lisa Cottingham, 14, from Weymouth, has lived with the condition since she was just two years-old and has to have four injections a day to manage her condition.

Despite the obstacles the illness has put in her way, Lisa is doing a six mile sponsored run on March 8 and then putting on an evening of entertainment at Budmouth College on March 14.

She said: “I have been diabetic since I was 2. I wanted to show my support and raise money for Diabetes UK.”

The six mile run could be a daunting task for someone suffering from the illness, with vigorous exercise sometimes leading to Hypoglycaemia- but Lisa is optimistic she’ll be able to complete the challenge.

She said: “I’m up for it. I have been training every day, I think I’m going to make it to the end.”

Lisa’s mum, Carole Didcock, says she has been very impressed by what she has seen from her daughter in organising the event.

She said: “She has wanted to do something for quite a while to give something back to Diabetes UK. She’s been organising it all herself. I’m very proud.”

The show night will feature the modelling of eveningwear as well as singing and dancing.

Lisa has already raised £100 in sponsorship for the run and is hoping to sell at least 150 tickets for the show.

Tickets cost £3.50 for adults, £2 for children and £10 for a family of four.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing organising the event, say the mum and daughter, but eventually they have got there.

Mum Carole said: “We were let down by two or three people for the show night but we have rallied some more support together. She’s asked me if I’ll go out and be on the door and collect donations.”
