COUNCIL-RUN tourist information centres across West Dorset have won a bronze award for ‘Tourist Information Service of the Year’ in the South West Tourism awards.

The award was received on behalf of West Dorset by Chairman of the Sherborne Abbey Festival John Baker at the awards ceremony on the Grand Pier, Weston Super Mare on 12 February.

The honours are the official tourism awards for the region and celebrate the best of the tourism industry in the South West. This year 425 entries were considered, each going through a rigorous three stage judging process of marking, visits and assessment by the judging panel.

Cllr Anthony Alford, Leader of West Dorset District Council, said: “I would like to congratulate our tourist information centre staff across West Dorset for their dedication and commitment in providing a great service for visitors to the area.”

The district council operates four tourist information centres in Dorchester, Sherborne, Bridport and Lyme Regis.
