A WEYMOUTH artist is hoping to raise lots of money with his work for Weymouth Pavilion.

Watercolour artist Mike Taylor has donated two canvases which will hang in the gallery at the Weymouth theatre.

The two large watercolours feature scenes from around the town, the first is the Weymouth Old Harbour with the houses and boats on the jetty’s and the second is the Pavilion in all its glory on a sunny summer’s day.

People will be able to buy posters, postcards and cards of the two art works from the Pavilion and the profits from the sales will be going to raise funds for the theatre.

Mr Taylor said he wanted to support the theatre and he was happy that his art works would be on display.

He said: “Back in Birmingham I worked in the theatres and I have a theatre background so I wanted to help them out.”

He said he thought there would be a good response from the public, as the theatre has such a lot of support locally.

Phil Say from Weymouth Pavilion said they were ‘absolutely delighted’ with the pictures Mr Taylor had painted and said he hoped the sale of the cards and prints would be successful.

He said they were keen to support all areas of the arts and had several arts groups who would be displaying work around the Pavilion during the year. Mr Say said that the theatre was keen to support all areas of ‘The Arts.’

He said the Pavilion was doing well, adding: “Things here are on the up and we are busy, busy, busy – which is great.”

The cards, postcards and prints of Mr Taylor’s works are available to buy from the Pavilion foyer.
